WHO WE ARE Hello and welcome to KidsRunning.Com. It won't take you more than a few moments of browsing the site, to see that
we are building a Web site devoted to promoting the sport of running for kids so that they can enjoy the benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle both at school and home. We integrate academics when we can. It seems that both learning and running are more fun for kids when they are combined.

Press: Sturbridge Times February, 2008
I am Carol Goodrow, editor of KidsRunning.Com. I'm the author/illustrator of the children's books: Kids Running: Have Fun, Get Faster & Go Farther - 2008, The Treasure of Health and Happiness - 2006, and Happy Feet, Healthy Food, Your Child's First Journal of Exercise and Healthy Eating - 2004.
I was a first grade teacher for about ten years, but returned to the resource room 5 years ago. I now teach second graders with special needs. I've been in the profession of education since 1974.
I love to run. I'm not a fast runner, but am still an avid runner. I run whenever and wherever I can. I also cycle. I will be cycling in the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) this summer, for the sixth time. The PMC is a 192 mile bike ride - a fundraiser for the Dana Farber Institute via the Jimmy Fund. The funds I raise will help find a cure for cancer. Riding in the PMC is the most courageous thing that I do.
Here are the highlights of my educational career:
1974 - Trained as an Orton Gillingham Tutor, specializing in learning disabilities
1978 - Certified as a special education and regular education teacher
1987- Curriculum Award in Tolland, CT for creating strategy based spelling and math programs for children.
1989-Sabbatical to the University of Connecticut where I learned that I belonged in the classroom with children.
1990 - Created Tolland's Computer Kids Summer Club which I taught for 6 years.
1994 - Tolland, CT Teacher of the Year Award
2001 -
The Cahperd (Connecticut Associaton for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) Honorary Layman's Award for meritorious contributions to KidsRunning.Com.
2002- KR was awarded a District Administration magazine national "2002 Curriculum Premium Web Site Award," in the
fourth-annual competition where they reviewed more than 700 education-related
sites. It was one of the eleven "premium" awards, which is the top award they
give out.
KR was featured in the February 2002 issue of the Skewl Sites Newsletter. This is a current educational newsletter that features "The Best of Educational Web Sites". KR was also featured in the August 2002 issue (pdf file).
KR has received the PE AWARD from Sports-media.org.
2004 - Founded CNC Software, Inc. and NERAC.COM's Miles of Math Kids' Club. This club integrated academics (reading, writing, and math) with running.
The club is now called the Happy Feet, Healthy Food Kids' Club. It includes reading, writing, running, walking, and healthy eating. We use my Happy Feet book as the text. We offer many extras to others who would like to start a Happy Feet Kids' Club: T-shirt design, free printables, ribbons, and we even have a club theme song! Check it out!
2007- International Reading Association of Central Mass- "Reading and Celebrate Literacy Award" for my work on my children's book The Treasure of Health and Happiness. Recognized for its healthful message and the inclusion of Mrs. Hillman's third grade class in the writing process. The children read and critiqued each chapter in writing as the book was being created.

Other 'awards' along the way included:
1981- A school-made holiday card from my son, Keith, when he was six years old. The message in the card said that he thought I looked pretty in my yellow dress.
1995 - My running bib number from my first race on June 5, in Auburn, MA.
1998 - Seeing my daughter, Josie, become a teacher.
Web Site Awards:
April 2001, KR received Curriculum Administrator's 2001 Diamond Award for Curriculum in the areas of health, nutrition, and physical education.
A Bit More:
The site is my passion and I consider it the highlight of my career. I am the editor, photographer, designer, creator, author, etc.
I have had a classroom running program since 1996 which culminates in an annual fun run. It was called Run, Spot, Run! It's now called, "The Chipmunk Chase".
In 2000, the school I taught at initiated a school recess running program in which almost 100% of the 220 first grade students participated. One year, the school that I teach at had a Parents' Day at Mileage Club. It was a great success.
KidsRunning.Com is a Runner's World magazine Web site.
I was hired by Amby Burfoot, Executive Editor of Runner's World magazine on March 16, 2000 and asked to design Runner's World's first children's page. I will never forget my hopes and dreams that I had when Amby gave me the opportunity to be part of the magazine that I loved and had learn to run by.
Amby also asked me to write my first book. Amby wrote the foreword for Happy Feet, and the afterword for my new TREASURE book.
 Coach Ed
Ed Poirier is a regular contributor. He answers all sorts of questions about track and cross-country. He has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors since April 2000.
Ed has had a successful career as a youth coach.
Lori is number 1 in my eyes.
Finally, I also work with Runner's World's Assistant Editor Lori Adams. Lori's a great runner who often takes her master's category at local races.
I also have received unlimited support from my school principal, Mrs. Pat Wahlberg. Without her support I would not have been able to have my classroom running programs, or the ability to integrate running into my school curriculum.
