Shizuka 5K
First those who know me from the guestbook or my column, know I run all sprints: I have now run the 400m. This is about the importance of health and education. First in the future in a global world as global citizens, the future wars won't be fought on the battlefield, but instead in the classroom. Simply put the most educated citizens will prosper the most. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (this quote not mine). Running is great because of health benefits. Keep running. But running is not a substitute for a education. This includes all sports. The Education Wars have already begun. (Only the educated are free) not my quote, but very true. Keep running.

I want to say what a wonderful book Carol's new Kids Running book is, especially for new runners and for people like myself where English isn't my first language. The book offers something for all who are interested in running or coaching or just starting a running club, and to parents who are new to running. It's good for entertainment too. We will be looking forward to Carol's next book. As for the kids, I think they will be most surprised by the riddles!

I got fast by the cross country team at my school, since I was 6 I have played competitive soccer and could sprint very fast. Once I got to middle school I joined the sixth and seventh grade cross country team (I am in 6th grade) So far my best time for a mile and a half is 10:52, I also got 15th place at conference where about 100 other 6th and 7th graders that were top 7 in there school ran. I LOVE TO RUN!

Shizuka relay
THE RELAY
When I was in junior high school our 4x100meter relay was nicknamed The Run Over Crew because of our complete domination of other schools. Our team motto was Leave no doubt! 2years undefeated, 2 state championships, also a trip to the All-Japan Championships. Alone with numerous other awards, this relay was built from the ground-up, we were like sisters. All four of us were 100 percent committed to the relay along with the coaches. Teamwork was the key to our success, every person knowing what they needed to do and doing it, to the best of their ability - loyal to one another.
When I went to high school our 4x100meter relay was nickname was The Rat Pack because the order in which we finished in indivduals event was one after the other. Our team motto was I don't know if I will win, but it will be one of us. - same type of success as in junior high school .but different in many ways for example our junior high team was built and our high school team was recruited, so our junior high team were local city heroes. Our high school was expected. Our high school was by far the more talented of the two. Our team chemistry and teamwork in my opinion wasn't very good. I believe we could have achieved so much more had we had the same level of committment and loyalty to the relay. Our relay was a fall back for some on the team, when their own events weren't going very well. They knew our relay would go to the All-Japan Championships.
Our anchor was a grade ahead of us. She was offered a scholarship to the university to runand then this year the other three of us who are now seniors were offered a scholarship to the same school for track. As far as I know all of us turned them down. probably for different reasons. The junior who is left in high school was told if we came, she would be offered the same next year. Have all five members of our 4x100relay team.
MY POINT IS: If you only run on the relays, always hold your head high and do your best. You never know who's watching. Your team chemistry, good baton passing, and the proper order of your runners can beat a team with far more talent and for those of you wondering - no our relay was never upset. We were undefeated the last two years in state. Our problem came at the All-Japan level.
My mother said: It goes to show you some school shave become lazy instead of building a powerful team and taking pride in it. They prefer to simply just recruit or buy one, then worry about things like team chemistry, attitude, character of a person, how they fit into a team concept, but in fact these things come first. Wome will become the leaders of tommorrow.

Al Hike, bike, & run
My name is Al and I have a ten year old son, Shayne-Evan. We are from
California near the Santa Monica Mountains, and Shayne and I like to
hike, bike, and run through some of the trails within the northwestern
end of the 60-mile long range that stretches from Point Mugu to Santa
Monica along the Pacific Coast. Shayne has run short distances with
me on a couple of occasions and has run a 1/2 mile race, but he
usually rides his bike on the trails when I run since my runs last an
hour or longer.
One of our favorite bike/runs is in a place called Sycamore Canyon.
It is about eight miles from one end to the other but most of the time
we go into the canyon just 3.5 miles and back for a total of seven
miles. We see lots of wildlife along the way. We have seen
squirrels, rabbits, quail, deer, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, bugs,
and spiders. Lots of different types of birds, too. Our favorite are
the Black Hooded Parakeets that hang around mostly near the coastal
trail head, but they can be seen well within the canyon. They are
very noisy and like to fly around in large flocks of 20 to 30 birds
while squawking loudly. These parakeets were at one time kept as
pets, but a few of them got loose a few years ago and made the Santa
Monica Mountains their home. They are very beautiful birds and this
is what they look like:
Black Hooded Parakeets
Shayne and I also enjoy hiking within these local mountains. The
highest point on this coastal range, Sandstone Peak, is over 3,000
feet, and Shayne and I conquered it last year during summer vacation.
We had to hike up only about 1,000 feet since the trail head was near
the 2,000 level, but it was no easy climb and we had to use our hands
to hike the last 100 feet over large boulders. The view of the
Pacific and parts of Ventura County were spectacular! It was a clear
day and we could see for miles and miles. Large birds flew over our
heads even at that altitude.
About a week ago we hiked up 1,266 feet from sea level to Mugu Peak in
that same general area. It is only a little over a mile to the top
but it is very steep, and there are lots of zig-zagging switchback
trails all the way up. The trail had lots of rocks and roots so we
hiked carefully. We saw mostly lizards along the way and a few hawks,
and mosquitoes buzzed all around us. But we had bug spray with us so
the mosquitoes didn't bother us. It was not much easier hiking back
down since it was so steep, and it was hard to keep from slipping on
the trail.
It is mid August and Shayne will soon start 5th grade. I hope that he
will have good memories of running, biking, and hiking with his dad
over the summer that he can share them with his classmates. I
certainly enjoyed partaking in these adventures with my son!

I used to run on the track team when I was in elementary sprints, but when I went to junior high school, I switched to basketball, because my sister had just left the year before I got there and the coach probably expected me to be my sister. No matter what I did, I would have failed in the end. Here's an example: my famous sister holds the fastest 100, 200, 400 meters ever ran from our city along with the 4x100 meter relay ever ran from our city, along with most all other records. Now in 8th grade, I was picked for the city all-star team. Only fifteen people out of fifty. My track comes in handy because we have a short team at school so my coach said we must play at a very fast pace. Japan

My name is Sierra. I am 7 years old.
Running is fun because I do love to run on trails with my Mommy. I won first place girl at the running club at my school. Running fast makes me feel like I am floating in the clouds. I did my first 3 mile trail race when I was four years old. You get to see beautiful sights when running on trails and sometime you might see a bunny or a snake. When I get older I want to run an Ultra. Running is COOL!! I live in California.

Tom 800-1600-3200-5K-10K
My name is Tom. I just recently completed my freshmen year of high school. I have been running since I was in the 6th grade. I got into the sport because of my dad. I had always known he had been a runner in high school, college and into his early adulthood. I always thought it was an interesting sport and I enjoyed watching track meets on TV and especially liked the Boston Marathon.
As I expressed more and more interest in running my dad told me there was a cross country team once I reached the 6th grade that I could join at school. Roughly half a month before school started in the 6th grade I went on my first run. It was a mile long and my dad came with me. I got done and felt good. Thus, I fell in love. I ran XC and indoor track in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I was a decent middle school runner, especially considering the lack of coaching. Finally having a good coach this past year was wonderful. He taught me a lot about the sport and I've become a true track addict.

Eileen Marathon
I first started running in college, but by knees didn't like it! So to stay fit I did a lot of walking and aerobics.
I started training to walk a marathon along with raising funds for leukemia research. During this training, I learned to racewalk. Racewalking is not just fast walking, there is a special technique, and in races, there are judges to make sure everyone is following the rules.
Racewalking is an Olympic sport, and is very popular in South America and Europe. Most Americans don't know very much about racewalking, and think it just looks funny. But it is good exercise!! Racewalkers train in a manner similar to runners. Racewalking races are held on both tracks and on road courses. We compete at distances from 1500m up to 50K (31 miles).
My favorite race is the marathon at Walt Disney World!! I have done this race 8 times, and done the half-marathon there 4 times. I keep going back because I have met a wonderful group of friends there. AND I get to see Mickey every year! Our group of friends comes from all over the U.S., and even from England, Belgium and Panama!!
So for me, staying fit and active is a way to both make friends and visit fun places! Pennsylvania

Running is special to me. It's something my mom and I can do together, since she got me started in the first place in late May '07. Mom had already started in early May of that year. Running helps me clear my mind, and it's good for you physically. We run by a trail by a pond in town that goes to a beach. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes bad. But I always have fun running!

Kathy 1/2 Marathon
Running is a good way to spend time thinking about what is bothering you. I love to run alone sometimes when I've got something on my mind and by the time I'm finished, I feel better, I can think clearer and figure out what I need to say or do to make things right again.
I love to run in the morning when it is still cool and the world is somewhat peaceful. One of my favorite places to run has a lot of deer, bobcat, quail, rabbits, wild turkeys, coyotes, foxes and mountain lions -- but I've yet to see a mountain lion! One time a deer stayed in my path and wouldn't budge and I thought I was going to have to crash into it but it moved just in time. Another time I did see a skunk and was able to stop before getting too close and watched it waddle off the path and I ran like the wind before it came back.
I have a 6-year old daughter who loves to run. She's watched her dad and I run and knows it is something that we like to do so she started to do it too. She loves to race her friends at school (and us too) and get a bit of a head start if she can. At least she is starting to run a lot earlier in life than her dad and I started and, hopefully, she'll enjoy it just as much as we have.

Tonia marathon
I used to teach aerobics classes, but switched to running for exercise after I had my first baby. The gym where I taught aerobics had no childcare, so I had no choice. I either had to run or stay home and sit on the couch. I was 28 years old. I started running ten days after my daughter way born and ran my first marathon when she was 11 months old. Seven weeks later, I ran my second marathon. From then on, I was hooked on running marathons. I have now run 17 marathons and one ultramarathon.
Now, I have two kids who are growing up quickly, and my life is busier. I enjoy getting just getting outside and running on trails for whatever distance or time I can run. I don't race as much as I used to, but I still run almost every day. On the weekends, my husband and I have a lot of fun running together. We usually spend one morning doing a long run of 20 miles or more together. Its a lot of fun running and talking together for hours and hours. Hopefully we will be able to run together for the rest of our lives!

Shelly 10 miles
I just love to run, I have run since junior high school, and now my eldest child is in junior high. I'm not especially fast, but I'm very persistent. My three kids run too, they are 6, 10 and 12. The 10 and 12 year old now run a 10km race faster than me! My youngest started running races at 18 months, she might like running the best of all of us. We really like to go to races together, we are all really proud of our medals and ribbons. One of the things I like best about running is that almost anyone can do it - all it takes is a pair of running shoes and some determination!

Jack 10 miles
I live in Connecticut and have been running for thirty years now. Lately I run about three miles a day with my dog (Sasha) and that is always interesting (lookingfor birds, deer or whatever) and I get together with friends at least once a week for a longer run. I've experiments with all distances up to marathon (I've done four) and I have run up Mt Washington 9 times. For me ten miles is the perfect distance...you need to prepare for it, plan water and food before and have a strategy for the whole distance.
Starting when my kids were two (14 years ago) my friend Angus and I have run kids track meets every tuesday at a local school. The greatest thing is to watch the enthusiasm of kides 3 to 6 years old as they discover running. I ran for almost ten years by myself but I feel like I started running when I met other people to run with.

Francis 10 miles
I started running 20 years ago in high school and am still going! I like to run, partly because it keeps you healthy, but also because it's a good hobby I have been able to keep all this time.
My kids aren't old enough to go running, but they have seen track meets and have seen me race the two-mile runs I need to do for my job (I'm in the Army). I ran cross-country and track in high school and college, mostly the 2-mile and 5k in track, and the 5k and 8k in cross-country. Most of the time I like to run longer races, my favorite is the 10-miler. The longest race I've run was supposed to be a marathon, but it was longer than it was supposed to be (by about 2.5 miles!).
I've run in many different places - often, when I'm traveling, I'll go for a run in the area just to see what is around. Places I've run include Virginia (where I grew up), Maryland, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, California, Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq.
Right now I live in Tennessee.

I really do like to run. I am a 62 year old woman and I have been running for almost 40 years. I used to be a coach and I really do like it when I hear about kids running. My grandsons and granddaughter also run. They are age 3, 6, and 10. The 6 year old has run a 5K. The 10 year old has run the 1-mile in a time of 8:40. The 3 year old has run 1 lap on the track (400 meters) in about 3 minutes. I hope you kids and my own grandkids keep running. It will make you feel good and maybe you will be running when you are as old as me.

Lynn 72 hours
I'm an ultrarunner, a runner who runs distances longer
than a marathon. There are many different distances in
ultrarunning, but the most popular are 50K, 50 miles,
100K and 100 miles. Some races are even longer. In the
US races of 100 miles are often run on trails.
Another form of running popular with ultrarunners is
races where the idea is to run as far as possible in a
certain time. There are many 24-hour races where the
best runners run all day and all night. And there are
races that continue for multiple days. My favorite race
lasts three days. This year I will run it for the
seventh year in a row
I have been running since 1977, but did not start
running in races until 1996. By the time I ran a few
marathons I learned that I am not fast, but that speed
does not matter so much in ultrarunning. Endurance,
strength, strategy and technique are what get you to
the end still smiling, and I seem to have a bit of them
all, including the smiles. So now that I am becoming an
older runner, I enjoy running slowly for a long time.
But I am happy to see young ones beginning to run and
enjoying it. Running can contribute toward a life of
good health and happiness.

Sally Marathon
i have been running for 38 years because i love to run! when i started it was hard and i didn't go very far, but i always felt good when i was done running. my first big milestone was when i completed 5 miles. that's when i first realized "i'm a runner". i began entering races, mostly 5K's and 10K's. i got faster and began winning my age division. once i actually won a race, a 3K (1.8 miles). i get goosebumps still when i remember crossing the finish line, and all the people cheering. just before i turned 40 i decided i wanted to run a marathon. i trained for 8 months, not too wisely, but was able to complete the 26.2 miles in 4 1/2 hours. crossing that finish line was one of the most intense moments of my life and i was incredibly proud of what i'd accomplished. from there, i continued to run more and more marathons, and eventually i ran my first ultra-marathon. i enjoyed this distance (50K to 50 miles) because it was a chance for me to run in some very beautiful locations. i tried one 100 miler, the Western States 100, but had to drop out at mile 57 with blisters. once was enough for that!
these days, i'm running some marathons and some ultras, but mostly i'm running because i love it. running has become an integral part of my life and i can't imagine a day without it. additionally, i'm fit, live a healthy lifestyle, and have the energy and drive of people half my age.
give running a try! it's fun, it's good for you, and it may change your life.

Foremost, running is/should be fun! It's a good way to enjoy the outdoors with friends (go running with them). It keeps you healthy. It's a great way to train for other sports (for example, football, soccer, baseball and others). And, most importantly, it makes you feel good.
Running has helped me immensely in my life, and I hope that you will continue to run/try to do so. It's something that you can do no matter what age you are or what body type you have. Have fun, put one foot forward, and go get'em!

Jim 10K
My name is Jim. I was born in Texas, and have lived here all my life, except when I was in the military for a few years as a young man. My favorite running distance is 10K, but I mostly run marathons. I don't know why. Maybe I should think about that. When I was a kid, I had asthma and could not walk around the block without coughing my head off. Finally, when I was about seventeen, I began to get over my asthma. I think I might enjoy breathing more than most people, because of all that.
When my daughter was a kid, I encouraged her to run, and she enjoyed going around the neighborhood with me. Eventually she got big enough to wear the same size shorts! I gave her several pair when she got married. Now, though, after several years of married life and having her own daughter, my little girl is not so little any more, and she can't fit into my running shorts. The last time I went to visit she gave me all of my running shorts back. Oh well, that's OK. They remind me of her when I wear them.
She still runs, though. Her husband just fixed the tires on their baby jogging stroller, so she can run with her baby. I bought my daughter a new pair of running shoes the last time I visited. The baby is too little to need shoes, but I bought her some anyway. We can't have her feeling left out. Her first birthday is next month, so she is old enough to hang on the edge of her crib and starting to take some steps. I'm excited that pretty soon, there will be another generation running in the family.

have given excellent inspiration.

My name is Tyler (from Georgia). I am 8 years old, entering the 3rd grade. I like to run 5k distances with my Dad. I ran my first 5k when I was 5 years old. I could not run the entire distance without walking some at the time, but now I can with ease. I run a steady, relaxing 9-minute pace. Nothing great, but pretty good for someone my age! I actually ran 4 miles last week in 36 minutes, and then completed a 5-mile run the next day! My PE coach wants me to run Cross Country for her when I begin middle school in 3 years. I can't wait! I participate in a lot of sports during the year, but nothing makes me feel better or builds my confidence more than running.

Eric 1600,3200,800,400 meter runs are my favorite events in track!!!
I recently broke my schools records in the 3200, 1600, 800, and the 3200 relay.
The 1600(1 mile) i ran a 4:59.3 and the old record was 5:08. In the 3200(2mile) run in 10:38 and the old record was 10:45 by Matt Smith. The 800 was 2:15.6 and I ran a 2:14.3 but that was after i ran the two mile in a SLOW 11:11 so I was a little tired. In the 3200 relay the record was 9:47 and we ran a 9:30. I also have ran the 400 in 58 but that was after the 10:38 so I was tired. What inspires me the most is watching movies on Steve Prefontaine and reading other runner's stories.

Julianne my favorite running distance is the 200m but i like all the other ones =)
well first off.. i love running. this is my first year of track and im 13. i run the 200m dash and im the fastest in my school for this event. my time is about 29 sec. ive had about 3 meets and i keep improving my time 1 sec and some tenths of a sec. which is pretty good. at the begining of the season i thought id do distance because i have a lot of stanma but im fast ! im also in the 4x200 relay and im the last person our relay team hasnt done very well. because our third person always slows us down and i have to catch us back up which is really hard to do but track is really fun even though u might have a dumb coach or something dont quit. itll jus make u better and jus prove them wrong so they have nothing to say . i also have a coach like this and i hate her but i live wit it =) im also in high jump. but im not too good i mean im not the worst in all the schools i compete. just our high jump team is pretty good!! Tips for Mental Toughness
1. First believe in yourself and your abilities.
2. Mental toughness is when you can start dreaming without going to sleep.
3. Mental touhgness is a place inside each and every one of us, where our confidence is so strong that it's a thin line between arrogance and confidence. Some people can reach this place very easily, and for other's it's a little deeper. How to reach this place is different for each person.
4. You might try this: there are only two real rivals you must beat in any race for short distances. They are the time clock and wind gauge. All other runners in the race are your best friends, beacuse it's their job to make sure you run your very best.
5. If you concentrate on your strong points and relax you will be okay. Also remember a coach usually says something about your mental readiness. If you aren's performing in races the way you do in practice. But don't mistake lack of ability or simply being beaten in a race, for lack of mental toughness.
6. Mental toughness: being able to perform under pressure, overcoming any doubts you may have about a race or your abilities. Japan

Olivia 100s, 200s, 400s, and 800s.
Hi, my name is Olivia. My favorite distances to run are 100s, 200s, 400s, and 800s. So as you can probably tell, I LOVE to run! But the sad thing is, I only have ONE friend who shares as much love for this sport as I do. Since I live in Nebraska, there's actually a lot of places to run and nobody loves to run that are my age. Any way, I just joined a junior track club and my coach is one of the best coaches anybody could have. So if you love running as much as I do, you'll get some of your friends (that might be some what of couch potatoes) to get out there and just run. Just run.
sincerely,
olivia -

On Sundays I go on the spin bike and do 10k.

Nichelle (girl) 100 meter dash & 400 meter relay & 75 meter low hurdels
Hey, this is my 1st time on this site it seems pretty kewl. :>) i want 2 run the 100m faster my fastest time was i think 13.14 or something like dat. I ran the 4x1 relay with my friends bri, nessa, and yoshi our fastest time was 52.3 seconds. Finally i ran the 75m low hurdels i wasn't really good at them i mean i had the perfect form just i wasn't fast i ran it in like in 14.23 secs. all these times are heck of slow so thats why I 've been preparing for 8th grade track and field since the end of my 7th grade yr. i've only ran in meets for 1year this will be my 2nd. but i've been 2 alot of meets. when my dad was coach at O.H.H.S he always took me and my bro 2 the meets it was always so fun i think dats wat got me interested in running. I luv track.

Mariah 5K
Hi I am 10 years old and my favorite race is the 1500m run. My fastest time in the 1500m is 5:12 and I do run the 3000m run and my fastest time in that is 11:20. I also like to run 5K and 10k races best time in the 5k is 19:46 and in the 10k race I ran a 43:35 and came in third in overall woman. I run 5k and 10k every once in a while for my training.
I also made it to the junior Olympics two years ago in the 4x400m relay and the 4x100m relay and we came in third in the nation in the 4x400m relay. This year 2006 I made it to the junior Olympics in the 1500m and the 3000m race. We went to Washington DC for the junior Olympics. It was very hot out there and I did not do so good out there but I did make it out there. I had to place top three out here to make it to Washington DC for the junior Olympics, I am now running cross country and I have been doing good I just ran in the championship Junior Olympic to see if I can qualify for the junior Olympics in Spokane Washington and I made it. But I am not for sure if I am going to go or not because it cost a lot of money to go up there.
my mom and I were talking one day because she use to run and she use to run half marathon when she was five and I told her that I wanted to try to run one. So I think we are going to start training for that and I think that my first half marathon might be in February
I run in California.

Declan 5K
Hi, I am going to do my first ever 5K Race on Sunday. I have run 5K in my training only once and I did it in a time of 29 minutes 29 seconds with a really strong wind blowing!! I am really looking forward to the race now as I am confident that I can finish the distance and I hope to do it less than 30 minutes again. I do like running. I find it exciting to try to beat my best times and distance but I think that 5K is far enough for me for now as I am 8 years old.
Do any other 8 year olds run this distance? What times do they do it in?

Kevster 1 mile
Hey, my name is Kevyn! I live in Kansas.I'm 11 years old and I just started training with the local high school's cross country team on Monday. It's been really exciting for me. We have 2 practices a day. 7 in the morning, and 7 at night. I've gone to each and every one of them. Personally, I think I'm doing really well, for the first major running I've ever done. Last year in May, I ran a local race and my 1 mile time was 7:42. (I haven't had my mile timed since then.) I also ran a half mile afterwards, which was 3:54.Yesterday we ran 1/2 mile teams. We ran 1/2 mile 3 times.
The second time I made a PR of 3:52. I don't know what my times were for the 1st & 3rd run, though, lol. I plan to continue training with them until high school. In high school I'm actually planning on being on the cross country team, so I'll end up running with them anyway.
There's going to be a 1 Mile race in September. It's called "Run for the Elephants." It's to raise money for the African Elephants. There's also a St. Patrick's Day race in St. Louis before the parade. I can't remember how many miles that is, though. I think 2. something. But I'm really excited about both races. These are the races that got me into training with the cross country team, but I think I'll continue training with them anyway after the races. It's fun to me.
I wonder what I'll do in the spring when cross country is over. If you have any suggestions, be sure to tell me them. Well, I think I've talked enough, lol. B.T.W. I have a little advice for anyone who wants to run. DON'T walk! I know you get really tired, but don't do it. Because, when you think you're ready to starting running again, it will take more energy. Your running pace gets messed up too. It's ok if you do a really slow jog, but as long as you don't walk or stop, it's gonna be okay. One more thing, I know there is pain when you run, but get your mind off of it! Don't think about it. Think about your joy when you finish whatever distance your running. That will keep you moving.
My state I run for is KANSAS!

Kelsey I love 100 meters.
Once I was a terrible runner. I always came in last on races and running tests. I decided that since I have a healthy body, I should be able to run. So I set to it, training twice a day. Now I pass my running tests and am never last! For everyone trying to get better-you can do it!
I live in Wisconsin.

Kaitlyn ?
Hi my name is Kaitlin, and I am 14 yrs old, and I have won many 5ks (16 to be exact) when I was 10 yrs old, so they are my favorite. I am from Massachusetts.
I am in training for the high school track team, and I have a summer training schedule. I'm doing really well, only I have 2 problems:
1. I'm slow. I run 10 min miles. I use to run around 6
2. I'm crazy about junk food. It's my life. I know it's not good for me, but I have to get my sugar, or else... well I don't know. I've never tried it, and I've never wanted to, except now that I have a more active lifestyle. I'm not fat or anything, I'm actually underweight, but I know that my eating habits are not good, but I have a hard time stopping myself.
Please help me!

Kandice 3 miles
Hi my name is Kandice! I live in Texas I am 12 years old and i love to run. I run about 3 miles a day and my fastest time for a mile is 6:10 that was before I started running 3 miles a day. I haven't timed myself for the 3 miles.
People say I am pretty fast though I went to practice with high school students and they said if I keep it up I could really go far I hope I accomplish going far like to the Olympics or something like that.
I really don't know what I should eat though. I want to eat pretty healthy. And I think I do but people say that im getting to skinny is it because of running or what am I doing wrong? Running rox!!!! how should I eat?
Editor: Kandice, find out from your doctor what your healthy weight range is for your age and height AND body build. Then try to stay somewhere within that range. Eat healthy food. Don't stock up on junk food to gain weight. Just eat healthy: fruits, vegetables, lean meat, whole-grains, low-fat cheese and dairy etc. If you are running a lot you will need to increase the amount of food you eat. Be a happy and healthy kid!

1.5 miles
I just wanted to say what a difference kids running has made in
my life. Last year I could hardly run half a mile without
huffing and puffing and my face tuning all red. Now I ran for 21
minutes strait of about 2.5 miles. I could have gone farther but
my Dad said I should stop because of the cold I had. The most
important thing in running is having a model. My Dad is my
model. He just recently ran the Bosten marathone and came in
about 5000 place out of 22 thousand people. So remember eat
right, stay active and you are never too young or too old to
start running Ohio

Hi I'm Cass I love to run. I'm in 8th grade, I've ran the 3200
in 13.22, the 1600 in 5.46, the 800 in 2.37, and my 1600 relay
team's best time is 4.38. I really like to run, I'm the fastest
girl in my school. Some people call me their hero because I'm
so fast compared to them, and because I can run for such a long
time without stoping. I'm constantly trying to find ways to
improve my time and my coach is really impressed with my effort.
I really love to run and if I'm bored I just go for a 2-3 mile
jog around town.

400m, mile relay, 800 m, 1mile, and 2miles during XC
I run every single day. I'm working to make it into a 1000
mile club at my school. However, you must run consecutivly every
day or it doesn't count. I made the 500 mile club in Jan., after
starting in the fall. During track this season I got three gold
medals at disrict. I also got 3 PRs (personal records.) I have
really improved a lot this year with the help of my two running
coaches, one of them is also my dad. I just wanted to say thanks
to them. Also, one last thing, for all of you out there who
think running hurts, yeah, it does, but lossing hurts more. Work
hard in practice and you will do good in the meets.

for 100m is 12.5 seconds. I think i could get a lot faster
though because im pretty skinny and usually muscular people are
the faster sprinters. What's the best thing to do to get in
shape for sprinting? GA

13.1 miles, 10Ks-10milers, Marathons
I am a serious long distance runner. My daughter's school is
starting a kid's "Running Club" today. I have been very ill
since I had my son in 2003 and had to almost elimate my running
(spinal arthris) but I am now ready to start running again, one
of the things that makes me most happy.
I am going to be a coach and my 7 year old who will be on my
team. I haven't been able to spend much quality time with her
since my son was born and we are both super excited.
I would like any advice on coaching a kid's running club. I
tend to push too hard (like running a Marathon on a broken foot)
and I want to make sure I don't push to hard and scare the kids
away from running.
Editor: Janette, for a 7-year old, you need to keep it fun and just encourage. Browse the advice sections of this Web site for more ideas.. Washington

hi my name is sebastian
i just ran the heartbreak hill today 17 april 2006
it is a steep hill well not really but when u are running nearly
1k up the hill it is really tiring
my strategy is to just to sprint at the beggining and go into
about 3rd or 2nd place the when u start to go up the hill take
the lead
when u are 1st and coming down the hill there is absolutely no
way u can loose
it was my first trophy i ever won so i will remember it till i

800 m
Hello there. I just turned 13 about a week ago. In my school I
am one of the best runners. I am in the 7th grade. I have been
running since i was about 3 years old. I have medals and
everything. I stopped running for about 6 years then..cry. I
don't know why i did. I wish i didn't because then i would be a
lot better. For the 800m i run it in about 2:42. I want to get a
time of about 2:30 by the end of the season. For the mile i run
it in a very week 6:10. Well it was the first time i did that
event. I hope to get MUCH better! Pennsylvania

Well it`s almost that time of the year.I am talking about, short
distance season too begin. A tip for you new runners.nothing
worth having comes easy, you will get out of running what you put
in. It`s sayed that the one who wants it the most will win.but I
have been running for years and I have never ran in a race that
anybody wanted to lose. So here`s may advice too you, give it
everything you got,and when that`s done,give some more.that will
be the difference between who win and who loses.the one who can
give that extra. good luck this season,I`ll see you at the
finish line. Japan

MiniMarathon
Hi,
Delightful and joy filled I come as your guest to request some
help and information to benefit elementary, middle school and
high school runners. Here's the scoop...
I am out of school today because of snow and was searching the
web for ideas on Kids' running clubs and training programs for
middle school girls.
I am an avid sports fan and take photos at University of
Louisville and University of Kentucky basketball and football
games. I run, swim and bike. The miniMarathon is my favorite
distance and I am training to run the Derby miniMarathon in
April. I coach Scottsburg girls' middle school track and
Scottsburg high school girls' cross country. Tennis is my
favoirte sport.
I am on our school's wellness committee and we want to start a
Healthy and Fit Kids fitness club. Any suggestions, tips or
remarks on how to be successful.
What works?
Thank you,
Mary
Editor: Mary, please check out our Happy Feet, Healthy Food Kids' Club It works!

1500 M, 400 M
I really like running a lot. I love running on the track more than running in the field because I do not have the best endurance and stamina. the surface of the track makes me feel very comfortable and I like that there are usually no more than 12 runners in a race. My best time for the 1500 meter is 5:31. Running the 1500 Meter feels a lot shorter than the mile for some reason even though it is only a 15-second difference. California

Running
Hi there -

Britney and Emir
All
Hi!
Hi Running is my favorite thing to do!!! Ihate the winter because I can never, sometimes run in the winter! Before each run I stretch out for 5-10 minutes and I do a warm-up. When I am done I stretch out for another 5-10 minutes and do a cool-down. Sometimes when I start a brand new race I never know what's out there sometimes ther is mud puddles and sometimes it's so hot I want to quit. But I never give up and neither should you. So my advice to you is whatever sport you chosse if it's running or any other sport stick with it and don't give up! I know i never will because I found my sport... RUNNING!!!!!!! Wisconsin

800 m
Hi From Canada
My name is Julian from the Durham Dragons Athletics Club and I really enjoy running. I have run for 2 years now and love every day of it.
As a grade 7 - 13 year old last year I ran 2:06 for a national record (my age group) here in Canada. I also ran 4:27 in the 1500 which also is a national record.
I eat good food every day and run 5 times a week with a long run of 8 miles 1 time a week.
Eat good train right and good form is what you need to get better.
Great site and thank you.

800 meters/1 mile
Hey, my name is Teri and I LOVE TO RUN!!! I have two brothers and one sister and we all run. We train together and even compete with each other at times. The biggest rivalry my whole school has ever seen(in running) is between my sister and me. We always try to out due each other, but in the end she always comes out victorious (it's because she is older):P. Anyways, about me, I am 15 years old. My favorite event to run is the 800 meters. Currently I am the fastest 800 meter runner in my school, but probably not for long. I also run the 1 mile which is my second favorite event. The mile is really hard for me because both my sister and I run it and she always wins, so I'm hoping this year will be the year I can get her, but even that is hard because there are so many other better runners out there. Running is a joy to do, so don't stop doing it. I wish you all luck when you're out there doing what you do best, RUNNING!!! Good Luck. <3<3<3<3<3<3

I started training over last winter when I was 13 and I am still running! It helps me feel relaxed and confident. I think cross training is extremely important and can help injury prevention and burnout. I am taking it easy for this winter and I am just running without doing any fartleks or speed work. I love running and it's great to run in the winter time when the sun is glittering off the snow. Just get out there, have fun and feel good!

hey everyone! my name is lynn! im 13 years old and in 7th grade. this past year was my first year ever running further than up and down the basketball court..lol i love running so much!! when i run i am relaxed and it seems like the whole world is just flying bye and i can do anything. this year my best time for a lap was 1:15. my best time for 3.3miles{5k}was 23:03 and i set my best time for that in the state cc meet in 2005!! i ran in the class aa run in the ky state cross country meet. i like running short distances such as sprints sometimes, but my passion is longer distances. even though while im running i want to walk but i tell myself not to stop keep going and by the time im done im so happy and can't wait to run again!! if you haven't tried running cc or running at all i highly recommend it,it is so rewarding as far as being proud of your accomplishments and getting in shape. and if you play sports like basketball softball or anything it i!
s GREAT way to get in shape for those sports. im happy to know other people like running as much as i do!!!!

2 or 3 km
Hi, my name is Iysa and I am 9 years old. I started running 3 years ago. I have a 4 year old sister, Sarika, who also loves running. I love 2-3km races because it gives me time to find my rhythm. I am the top runner in my grade at school. During the winter I go in races almost every weekend. This year I fell down at the start of one big race. A lot of kids fell right on me. My knees and hands were covered in blood. When I stood up everyone cheered and this made me run faster. At the finish I was first. I was so surprised to be number 1. I have another race this weekend so I am training hard now. I hope I can win.
Good luck with running!!
