I gather the teams in a circle.

I tell the kids they should be proud of what they have accomplished as a team! This team has done its homework and is ready.

I tell them to get a strong start and be very careful not to fall during the start of the race.

Once the first 1/4 mile is over I tell them to settle into their own pace and concentrate on holding their position and to start working their way up the filed when they can.

The team understands the point scoring system and know that even if they are not in the top five they can still help the team by increasing the score of other teams.

Finally I let them know it is more important to pass more people during the race than sprinting by one or two people at the finish.

The North Kingstown Recreation Track Club team has worked together for the last 12 months with the nationals as a goal. So far they have done what they have set out to accomplish. Our team is delighted to have teams like Nashua in our local region. We believe this gives us great competion at every race and has helped us improve.

I've observed Charlie Breagy, in action with the kids, many times and invited him to share his "PeP Talk" with KidsRunning.Com.

Thanks Coach Breagy, and congratulations to all the kids who participated in the Junior Olympics this year.

Coaches, we'd love to have a copy of your favorite "PeP Talk". Please share with KidsRunning.Com and help make the team experience better for our running kids.
